Mike Hyman
The SMC’s Junior Registrar is Myke Hyman, pictured here with his father in 1974 outside the family garage where Mike served his apprenticeship in the early 1950s. He spent several years in the motor trade, four of them in East Africa, before joining the MOD Contract Repair organisation as a vehicle inspector. He later joined REME as a civilian Technical Officer, moving on to Research & Development, then Project Management.
Mike now has four Singers – two of them Juniors.
First came Hazel, a 1932 Sports Special Nine, GY 2793, which he found derelict outside a barn near devizes and restored over four years as a retirement project. Then came Victor, a 1930 Saloon VK 3304, on which Mike has now completed a full restoration.
His latest project is a 1953 SM 1500, NON 471, named Monty, which is now restored and back on the road. Mike also has a 1956 Hunter named Selwyn, who came from Wales. Selwyn had suffered from seaside salt corrosion after almost 50 years in the Swansea area, and Mike ahs had to rebuild the rear body mountings, most of which had completely rotted away. Selwyn’s main outings have been to the Singer Centenary celebration in 2005 and to the newly formed French SOC Granville Rally in France.
