John writes – Here for sale is my 1937 Singer Bantam 2 Seater Tourer. It’s in excellent condition. There is no rust on this car! That’s worth repeating …. there is no rust on this car. The engine has been dismantled, oil galleries cleaned, and new +040” pistons fitted. The cylinder head has been lightly skimmed. The engine always starts easily and the oil pressure shows +45psi when hot. The brakes have been completely overhauled and the car sits on 4 brand new tyres fitted to refurbished wheels. All the gears change up and down as they should. The car has a new exhaust system and battery. All the electrics work; the horn, lights. wipers, flashers …. although the right hand side seem to flash more quickly than the left …. and the ammeter shows that the dynamo is charging. A new ‘double duck’ hood has been professionally tailored and fitted along with new side screens. The interior has been fully re-trimmed including new carpets and door cards. The chrome can be described as almost perfect. although one of the left hand side bonnet securing clips will need to be replaced. Why then, I hear you ask, am I selling it? Because, I realise now it’s not the car for me! It’s noisy, the steering’s vague and the suspension is very firm. I hadn’t anticipated how demanding driving an almost 90 year old car with its idiosyncrasies and peculiarities could be. I had not considered how backward 1930’s technology was! The V5c document is present and in my name. As regards value …. I’ve really no idea. I do think it’s the only running example in the U.K. While the car has had money, time and effort invested in it, I’ve not spent a fortune …. I’m open to reasonable offers. 1923 Singer Ten This car was owned by Gary Barr a long term club member but unfortunately Gary died a few years ago and his wife Margaret has decided to sell the car.
Gary was an ace restorer of several cars including at least two Singers to my knowledge a 10/26 and the 1923 Ten you see here. The car has been restored to a very high standard but is currently not running so needs recommissioning. First registered in October 1923 it comes with current V5 and an old green continuation log book. It is fitted with the 1096 cc 4 cylinder engine overhead valves with the later enclosed push rod block and gearbox in unit with the engine. Body is a 4 seater open tourer and like the rest of the car has been restored to a very high standard with just the hood and side screens to be recovered which was the last job to be done, but as can be seen are with the car.
