Chairman – Barry Paine
Barry has been a member of the Club since its formation in December 1976, when he bacame its first Secretary, and was instrumential in setting up the club constitution. He was involved in the initiation of the club spares fund, and set in motion the proposal to contact other Rootes clubs with a view to forming what eventually became the ARCC. He was actively involved in the organisation of many club events, including the 2009 George Singer Centenary Memorial, the 2013 George Singer Kingston Maurward weekend and the 2016 40th ASCO Anniversary celebrations at Llangollen.
At the 2017 AGM Barry took on the Spares Coordinator role and, a year later, strongly supported the idea of re-branding the club as the Singer Motor Club. Barry also produces and issues the club’s Information Bulletins on an ‘as-required’ basis.
Barry has a wide ranging interest in and knowledge of all aspects of Singer, from 1847 when George Singer was born, through to the Rootes/Chrysler era of 1956 to 1970. He has owned and enjoyed numerous Singer cars. 1925 Singer 10/26, 1936 Singer Nine Sports, 1949 Singer Nine Roadster, various SM1500s and Hunters, a 1962 Vogue Estate, a 1948 Super Ten and a 1960 Gazelle Convertible. A Singer-engined HRG 1500 resides in his garage.
You will therefore appreciate that Barry is a great enthusiast for all aspects of the Singer marque.
