Through some painstaking research we have located the place in Dorset where George Singer, founder of the SINGER Marque, was born. At the time George was born, on 26th January 1847, his parents, George (Sen.) and Hellen, lived in Kingston House on the Kingston Maurward Estate in the Parish of Stinsford, Nr Dorchester, where George (Sen.) was Farm Bailiff. Shortly after George was born, the family moved into the Old Manor House that had been divided to provide accommodation for several estate workers and their families.
Guided visits to the Manor House were a major part of our George Singer Day at Kingston Maurward on 13 September 2013, when we held our Annual Singer Car weekend in the Dorchester area, and unveiled a plaque by the gateway to the Manor House to commemorate the occasion.
